Recognizing that faith and science serve the pursuit of truth

Following Jesus involves pursuing truth in all its forms, including science and intellect. There is no inherent conflict between Scripture and science, as the ancient texts of Christian faith were never intended to be read through the lens of science. Rather, they move us to seek wisdom, knowledge and truth wherever they may be found. The journey of faith is a collaboration between the head and the heart, which means that genuine faith involves doubt. Embracing doubt allows followers of Jesus to foster a faith that is authentic, honest and deeply true.

Easter for a New Century: A Sermon for a Christianity Come-of-Age

SERMONS  |  Chris Neufeld-Erdman

Matthew 28.1-10

In this sermon (Easter 2017), I'm trying to honestly make some kind of sense of the Resurrection for real life, here and now.  And I don't want to fall into banal cliches, hackneyed phrases, and worn out dogmas that assume we can just repeat "Christ is Risen" and feel in any real way that we've engaged honestly with the ancient religious truth proclaimed at Easter, the modern world as we've come to know it, and a spirituality that helps us flourish in these challenging times.  The text that day was Matthew 28.1-10, but it addresses the broad witness of the Resurrection.  ...

Genesis 1:1-5; Genesis 1:6-8; Genesis 1:9-13; Genesis 1:14-19; Genesis 1:20-23; Genesis 1:24-28
